Leading The Way for Justice – an interview with two EDI experts from UCL and KCL
How do we implement and sustain long-lasting and genuine change for equality, diversity, and inclusion work to improve outcomes for medical students, colleagues, and patients? Dr Rini Paul, one of our Teacher Development Leads speaks to Dr Lois Haruna-Cooper, a GP, Teaching Lecturer and the EDI Lead for University College London Medical School and Dr Shuangyu Li, Senior Lecturer in Clinical Communication & Cultural Competence, Centre for Education Lead for Development, Diversity & Inclusion and recently appointed Co-director of KCL Cultural Competency Institute. They cover how they got involved in this work, the power of allies, relationships, working with others “EDI is everyone’s business”, the challenges in dismantling the systemic structures of inequality, successes, and top tips for all medical educators.
